Prison Reform Trust Engagement with Female Incarcerates
The Prison Reform Trust has engaged with women who have been incarcerated to help implement change. In London, the insights of the London women's council helped to inform work with the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime and partners to develop a blueprint for implementing a whole system approach to women in contact with the criminal justice system in London.
The Prison Reform Trust's 2017 report identifying domestic abuse as a driver of women's offending included evidence from women who had lived experiences. This report was then influential in the government's consultation on 'transforming the response to domestic abuse'.
These examples of changes that have been implemented as a result of engaging with those who have experience of the incarceration system demonstrate the necessity of responses informed by those who know what changes need to be made.

GlowCycle's Approach
GlowCycle's Approach
GlowCycle works to facilitate a relationship between women leaving the prison system and other previously incarcerated women who have reintegrated into their respective community. This mentorship scheme hopes to ease the transition from life incarcerated to life on the outside through providing vulnerable women leaving criminal justice institutions with a source of support to help navigate life back in society. This support can be in the form of visiting a GP, gaining access to the job market, finding sustainable and safe housing, etc.
